Social Dis Dance

Established in the year of the COVID outbreak, the name of the group also draws inspiration from the term “social distance,” which was newly coined during the pandemic. Formed by three cultural professionals in their 30s (sound artist Betty Apple, A COPY OF A COPY’s Viktor Lin, and Vacuum Communications Interior Design’s Hoser Huang), Social Dis Dance is a gathering of people sharing their observations of society and discussions of encountering each other at a party. When Covid-19 overtook the world in 2020 and changed how people met and interacted, social media and internet culture instantly became a way of reconstructing social interactions. Through electronic music (especially industrial Techno music), Social Dis Dance opens up a new style of Cyberpunk in Taiwan.

Dancers and photographers are invited to create whimsical live images. Queer photographer Chien Wen Lin, up-and-coming choreographer Lee Chin-Chieh and Dylan Song, and VJ One Spicy, who is an expert at weaving and image design, as well as several drag queens, are all invited to collaborate in creating the multivariate creative scene.

Group Leader：Betty Apple 

Betty Apple currently lives in Taipei and is a Taiwanese generation-Y avant-garde artist. Betty Apple graduated from the Taipei National University of the Arts Department of Theatre Arts and Graduate School of New Media Art, and her works are inspired by rave, subculture, avant-garde theatre, New Media Film, and post-internet art. She often expressed her creative concept of “body politics” through various identities including electronic music artist, sound art performer, Live artist, DJ, and rave organizer. Betty Apple is also the founder of the performance group ArtKB48.
