2026 Sonic Shaman × Out in the Loop
Two stages, 9,500 kilometers apart, will be linked in real time through a zero-latency telematic performance system — placing audiences and performers in Taipei and Lucerne, Switzerland, within the same continuous, sound-held present.

TheCube Project Space and Switzerland’s Out in the Loop festival will co-present 2026 Sonic Shaman × Out in the Loop on November 14–15. Using a telematic performance system, the two cities will be connected through 24 hours of real-time audio and video, bringing together more than 30 artists, dancers and performers from Taiwan, Southeast Asia, Switzerland and Europe for a relay performance spanning day, night, and time zones. The Taipei stage is set at JUT RS289; the Swiss stage is housed at Neubad in Lucerne, an arts and culture space converted from a former public swimming pool.
Founded in 2022, Out in the Loop is dedicated to exploring popular culture at the intersection of academia, art and entertainment, and has used its own custom-built telematic performance system to stage cross-border festival connections with Kyoto, Hong Kong, Amsterdam and other cities. Its collaboration with Sonic Shaman grows out of a shared curiosity about “liveness” and “co-presence” — once a live event can be transmitted instantaneously to a stage 9,500 kilometers away, can distance itself become an artistic method?
Sonic Shaman was launched by TheCube Project Space in 2022 around a single organizing idea — the music festival as an art form — breaking with festival convention by bringing together experimental sound, electronic music, performance art, lecture performance and cross-disciplinary live practice. Past editions took up The Madeleine Moment (2022) and Traversing (In)Difference Inn (2024) as their curatorial themes, followed by Borderless, presented at Singapore Art Museum in January 2026 to an audience of nearly 20,000. This Taiwan–Switzerland connection marks Sonic Shaman’s return to Taipei after venturing onto the international stage.
This edition’s curatorial thesis, Teletopia: How (Not) to Believe in This World Again, confronts a question of our hyperconnected era: as daily life becomes inseparable from the online world, and social media is saturated with misinformation and AI-generated imagery, “believing in the world” is no longer something we can take for granted. Can art still offer a way to re-practice perceiving the world, understanding others, and being present with them? Sonic Shaman × Out in the Loop sets out to build a temporary, constructed “teletopia” — treating distance as an artistic form, where transmission delay becomes content, and treating time as a curatorial framework, where the 24-hour live event unfolds like a collective ritual that cannot be fast-forwarded or replayed on demand.
Once the 24-hour cross-border connection ends, the Taipei site will stay open for a 6-hour-only Sonic Shaman Extra. The stage, lighting and sound system will keep running, inviting the audience to remain on-site and welcome in a different rhythm, from early morning into daylight.
