The FVL.
Formed in 2024 by Hom Yu and Chia-yu, the FVL. takes its name from an extinct Austronesian language once spoken in Taiwan, Favorlang. It was recorded by the Dutch in the 17th century, but its culture and tongue have long since vanished.
Through a series of albums and cutting-edge music and art technologies, the project seeks to reconstruct the lost ancient civilization of the Favorlang people, creating a world where the virtual and the real intertwine — a music project rooted in a distinctly Taiwanese perspective.
About the Performance: Land of Siesta
Before the 20th century, as colonial expansion intensified, many colonizers traveling to Taiwan experienced a range of physical and psychological symptoms, including fatigue, drowsiness, loss of appetite, and depression. These conditions were collectively referred to as “tropical neurasthenia.” From the perspective of local Taiwanese voices, this album seeks to examine the cultural characteristics embedded in this phenomenon. Through its tracks, their debut album Land of Siesta creates imagined sonic landscapes that further extend outward, linking Austronesian cultures with both the ancient and modern dimensions of Taiwan.
