A performance lecture featuring new music inspired by Hakka shan ge (mountain songs) in conjunction with the artist’s reflection on being Chinese diaspora with a diluted connection to her cultural heritage, along with an abstracted presentation of her research.
weish (Singapore) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans composition, performance and playwriting. Her recent exploration engages with the dying folk songs of her Hakka heritage, in an attempt to (re)connect with, embody, and contemporise her musical lineage. This research culminated in stray gods, a “live concept album” presented at Singapore International Festival of Arts 2025.
