Subductive Resonance

Sl_OWTALK

Subductive Resonance draws from the image of tectonic plates grinding beneath one another – a metaphor for how Sl_OWTALK approaches collaboration and public space: nothing smooth, nothing resolved. The work exists in the overlaps between sonic control and collapse, where the machines and bodies respond to noise, mess and unpredictability.

The performance will be rooted in structured improvisation. Sl_OWTALK works with analog synths, samplers, beats, creating layered rhythmic patterns that distort and evolve in real time. There’s no fixed setlist.

Instead of clarity or cohesion, Sl_OWTALK embraces breakdown. The sound bends under pressure, glitches under duress. This refusal to resolve becomes it’s own kind of expression. One that resonates with the broader themes of refusal, instability and making do.

Sl_OWTALK (Singapore) is a drum and synthesizer duo made up of Mohd Rahmat Bin Suliman (Mamat) and Muhammad Isyraf Bin Sabtu (Isyraf). Since forming in 2019, the group has developed a sound that merges distorted electronics, improvisational drumming, and rhythmically complex structures. Influenced by noise, art rock, and experimental electronic music, Sl_OWTALK creates performances that are immersive, physical, and sonically intense while sometimes involving visual elements to their performances. Their work is deeply rooted in the energy of live performance and the unpredictability of improvisation, aiming to challenge traditional boundaries of sound, structure, and audience engagement through dense textures and confrontational, high-impact sonic environments.
