This year marks the 10th anniversary of Scattered Purgatory. It all started with a chaotic and thunderous sound born from clouds and mist. Then, as if descending from the top of the clouds, the sound wandered through the mountains and linked up with the whispers of demons and spirits through the lost historical records. Eventually, Scattered Purgatory followed the streams into man-made plumbing systems, flowing through the pipelines to the metropolitan sewerage. In their early days, this group “easternized” Western instruments, using rock music gear as paintbrushes to depict Asian landscapes. Midway through their career, they extensively incorporated synthesizers and electronic drums. After a hiatus, they returned with a new style that fuses electronic dance music with industrial sounds and dub reverb sound waves, yet the backbone of the band: “experimenting with a rock ‘n’ roll attitude” remains unchanged. With trip-hop and the wall of sound at their disposal, they will continue to drill down until they penetrate the rampart of the city of the unrighteous dead.
