sam- seng – hian – ge

In 2014, sam-seng-hian-ge made its debut in public performance. This cross-field and long-range project spans multiple genres, blending folk collection, electronic music, and elements of Taiwanese temple music. Initiated by the renowned music producer Blair Ko, it is also a new form of electronic music performance group that includes two other prominent electronic music producers: Cheng Ko-Chun (also known as Sonic Deadhorse) and Huang Kai-Yu (also known as fish.the). The inclusion of visual artist Chiu Chih-Chun further enhances sam-seng-hian-ge’s reputation as an exceptionally creative art collective.

Sam-seng-hian-ge has been nominated for the Golden Melody Award multiple times and has participated in several significant performances, including the opening stage of the 2014 Taiwan International Video Art Exhibition and the 2016 Taipei Biennale. Their most recent performance took place at the Taiwan Pavilion during the Paris 2024 Cultural Olympiad.

In early 2024, a significant tragedy struck the team. One of the members, Huang Kai-Yu, known as the “electronic music professor”, suddenly passed away. For this year’s Sonic Shaman stage, six of the most representative tracks from four of fish.the’s albums will be taken as a basis, on which sam-seng-hian-ge will do the remix and incorporate improvised elements. Will the void left by fish.the result in a loss of momentum and unique vocal identity for sam-seng-hian-ge? How will their musical style and issues of concerns evolve in the future? Blaire Ko, Sonic Deadhorse, and Chiu Chih-Chun will join hands to explore the future direction of sam-seng-hian-ge. Their new project, Tian-Di-Wu-Yong, is officially underway for this purpose.
