A free improvisational combination of digital sounds.
Developed from Chen Hong Yu’s (subject) body memory and breathing rhythm practice, interacting impromptu with Chang Yu Xun’s digital sounds (objects, external elements), these works aim to delve deeper into the inner world and universe of meditation and contemplation.
As a traditional musician trained at Xuanshe, saxophonist Chen Hong Yu strives to apply the techniques of playing the suona on the saxophone, attempting to simulate the sounds of synthesizers and effects units through variations in breathing. MIDI/DJ Chang Yu Xun employs direct and immediate sound feedback techniques, such as kneading, twisting, and breaking, to fragment the “sostenuto” of guan music, detaining temporarily the rushiness and ephemerality at every moment.
