Han traditional music is often tied to rituals, serving both gods and the religious needs of people, while also providing entertainment. However, due to the late-developing and passive process of modernization in Taiwan, traditional art appears to be marginalized without proper disenchantment. The generational gap also contributes to this issue. As a result, contemporary creators must appropriate and collage traditional culture in ways that decontextualize it, which highlight the disconnection between our society and its traditions. In an effort to preserve the lingering charm of the old society, Lilium continually infuses Taiwanese songs with various musical genres and intersperses speech-singing and Nan / Peiguan music in their works. Follow Lilium and travel freely through points, lines, and planes in time and space. Abandon clichés and explore new possibilities in music through their bizarre main themes, arrangements, and lyrics composed of juxtaposed traditional and modern symbols.
Lilium was established in Taipei. They released their first album Burnana in 2019. The album won Best Rock and Roll Album, Best New Comer in the Golden Indie Music Awards, and was shortlisted for Best Taiwanese Hokkien Album in Taiwan’s Golden Melody Award (GMA). Lilium released their second album Road to… in 2021, and won Best Taiwanese Hokkien Album and Best Album Design at the 33rd GMAs in 2022.
