Asep Nayak performs his electronic Wisisi music, a contemporary version of Wamena, West Papua ritualistic music he co-created in early 2010s. This fast-paced and heavy pumping beat version became a new local darling played in community parties from backyards, jungles, schools, churches, public transports, traditional markets, football terraces, to art festivals. Asep will play old and new tracks for 60 minutes.
Asep Nayak West Papuan producer, he has been redefining the local ritualistic Wisisi music using a cracked FL Studio of his home region Wamena. Like many other Wisisi music producers, he released his works on YouTube and shared them using bluetooth phones.
He performed for the first time at the Biennale Jogja in Yogyakarta 2021, followed with successful shows at Joyland’s Ravepasar Bali, Pestapora Jakarta in 2022-2023, CTM Festival Berlin in 2023, and Rising Festival Melbourne in 2023. His first full-length album was released by Yes No Wave Music in 2023. Asep Nayak is the main character in an award-winning documentary film Wisisi Nit Meke (Our Wisisi Music).
