Benjamin Burge

Benjamin Burger is a Zurich-based artist, director, writer and performer working across design, performance, film and media art. After completing his MA at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) in 2012 with God Mode — a crossover of video gaming and theatre — he founded the production company Extraleben.

His work emerges from open-ended collaborative research and often departs from convention: Crush uses a wrecked car as a stage; A Lovely Piece of Shit tours techno clubs through the night; Solastalgia — A Ghost Story was shortlisted for the 2022 Theatertreffen Stückemarkt in Berlin.

With dramaturg Mona De Weerdt, he develops long-form projects such as States of Exhaustion and Eroding Grounds, examining ecological, political and personal exhaustion under late capitalism. He also teaches and researches at ZHdK, where he co-leads the minor programme Global Pop Cultures & Event Practices.
