Sonic. Candy. Pepper. Blitz.
In the summer of 2020, Super Napkin released an animated music video for “Sonic Candy Pepper Blitz,” which was produced single-handedly by Chiu Chih-Chun. Without prior discussion of the background, Chiu Chih-Chun crafted a surreal narrative that perfectly echoed the theme of the song, drawing solely from the impressions he gained while listening. He successfully embodied a fantastical mountain-climbing experience that the song intended to capture, much like a psychic photographer with superpowers (or perhaps a charlatan?).
At the beginning of 2024, the group members and the MV creator coincidentally traveled to Chiang Mai for vacation, only to realize afterward that they had passed each other by. The occurrence of this synchronistic event appears to be another message from the universe. Consequently, Super Napkin and Chiu Chih-Chun decided to engage in another charades between music and visual art, sprinkling colors on the sound waves.
Super Napkin is a fuzz-pop trio hailing from Taiwan. As 80’s kids born in the Taipei Basin, the drone of motorbikes comprised their early childhood ‘soundtrack’. So when they came of age in the Soulseek 56k baud modem era, it made perfect sense for them to fall in love with the equally droney sounds of Yo La Tengo, Sonic Youth, Eric’s Trip, The Microphones, and My Bloody Valentine.
Since 2016, they’ve released 3 full-length albums, 2 EPs. and 2 singles.
With the experience of over a hundred shows and the musicality that covers lots of ground, Super Napkin has become the opening act of choice for overseas bands who still use distortion pedals and the wedding band for local band friends who can’t afford to hire someone better.
They’ve played major festivals in Taiwan, such as Megaport, Vegabond, and LUCfest.
